The Consultative Meeting on Technical Development and Strategy of Exotic Invasive Organisms Prevention and Control was held in the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences from August 7 to 8, 2004. This meeting was presided over by researcher Wan Fanghao. The participating experts came from departments of agriculture, forestry, education, oceanic administration, environmental protection and quarantine etc. Ding Hui from Nanjing Institute of Environmental Science also attended this meeting. Relevant matters concerned with preparing an international workshop on technical development and strategy for exotic invasive organisms prevention and control was discussed at this meeting. They decided the international workshop would be held in November, jointly sponsored by Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and CABI.

　　At this meeting, the participants first discussed the topic of international workshop, preliminarily ascertaining the following four aspects: 1) surveying the status quo, impact and damage of exotic invasive organisms in China; 2) analyzing the work frame, method and measure in exotic invasive organisms prevention and control in China; 3) summarizing the need and capability construction for exotic harmful organisms invasion in China; 4) planning the technical and strategic framework of exotic invasive organisms prevention and control, recommending preferential developing action plans in different fields and providing technical and strategic report on prevention and control of exotic harmful organisms invasion for International Conference of “APEC-Exotic Invasive Species” next year.

　　At this meeting, six workgroups in different fields were established, including agriculture, forestry, quarantine, environment and biodiversity, oceanic administration and integrated management. The task of these workgroups was to appraise comprehensively the status quo, capability construction and technical support system for exotic harmful organisms invasion in China around above topics and bring forward technical and strategic report on prevention and control of exotic harmful organisms invasion within their own field.

　　At this meeting, the participants also discussed the schedule and attendees for the imminent international workshop. They preliminarily planned to hold the workshop from November 1 to 5.
